September 17, 2011
Dear Friends:
We are writing to invite you to renew (or become a new member) of Friends of the Falling Rock. Despite modest growth in business revenues in recent years, your "Friends" membership remains an important part of the business model for continuing as a year-round business. Perhaps more importantly, however, it is also a chance to participate in special events, develop friendship and networking connections, and benefit from special opportunities and discounts available only to members. We hope that you will renew your membership (or participate for the first time) and join us for the initial Friends of the Falling Rock gathering on Friday, September 30, 2011, at 6:00 P.M. to kick-off a new year.
Membership brings benefits! For example, members are entitled to discounts on all book purchases (20% on used books and 10% on new books). Although we realize it is easy to find your favorite books on amazon.com or at a supersize chain bookstore, you should know that we specialize in finding rare, out of print books for which customers have searched far and wide and have filled more than 500 special book orders in the past year alone! We also stock a unique array of Upper Peninsula, regional and specialty titles and host regular book signings by local authors.
Each person who joins as a member will receive a $5 loyalty card to use toward any book purchase at the Falling Rock Café & Bookstore. Moreover, any "Friends" member who puts $50 on their loyalty card—at any time throughout the year—will have an additional $5 added to the card. (In other words, Put on $50 and get $55 in credit!) We hope that you will find this a convenient new way to make purchases!
The generosity and support of the Friends of the Falling Rock has made it possible to keep the doors open during the winter months so that book groups, music jams, meetings of various organizations, concerts, lectures, open-mic nights, and book signings can take place. Because of you, the Falling Rock has become both an important part of the community and a place where "community happens" among diverse people from near and far. If you have enjoyed one or more of these activities—or you simply appreciate having a place to gather with friends on a blustery winter day—we hope that you will join us for traditions such as:
- Hors de oeuvres, drinks and conversation (see Newsletter) September 30th
- Semi-formal dinner in November
- Holiday cookie "potluck"
- "Soup Bowl Supper" in February
- BBQ and afternoon on Grand Island in June
- Wine tasting and other events, including the launching of our own Coffee roasting capabilities sometime in Fall 2011
The membership fee for Friends of the Falling Rock remains $100 per person and can be paid by cash or check at the Falling Rock Café & Bookstore (104 East Munising Avenue, Munising, MI 49862; 906-387-3008). If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact Jeff or Nancy at any time (906-387-1623; ndwyer@fallingrockcafe.com) and remember to visit our website at www.fallingrockcafe.com.
Your continuing support of the Falling Rock Café & Bookstore in so many ways has made it possible to enter our 9th year with great hope for the future. Couples have met, friendships have been forged, murals have been designed and created, and lives have been touched in many ways because you have helped to make the Falling Rock an important second home, or "third place," for area residents, visiting family, tourists, and those who are passing through looking for a place to call "home."
As always, please remember the Falling Rock for new, used, rare or special order books; gifts for all occasions; fresh roasted coffee and espresso drinks; hosting of special events, parties or community activities; Saturday night music concerts; book signings; concerts; and gathering with friends. We look forward to seeing you on September 30th!
Sincerely,
Jeff & Nancy
